Unbound (三寸金莲)
Choreographed by Wen Wei Wang
Duration: 60 minutes
Premiere: 2006
Weaving former Chinese traditions with modern perspectves, Unbound is an intense and stylish exploration of ideals of bequty, power dynamics, and gender relationships. Wen Wei Wang’s choreography uses as its starting point reflections of the former Chinese practice of binding women’s feet in pursuit of status and an impossible erotic ideal. Unbound transcends its cultural origins to unravel sexualities, emotions and relationships that are universally familiar.
Unbound is a co-production of The CanDance Network Creation Fund, Canada Dance Festival, Dancing on the Edge, Harbourfront Centre, National Arts Centre, The Brian Webb Dance Company, L’Agora de la danse in collaboration with Danse danse andn supported by the Canada Council Dance Section.
